Xen HVM-ISO Guide

About Xen HVM-ISO

Xen HVM-ISO is based on the Xen Hardware-assisted virtualization (HVM). To use Xen HVM-ISO your server (CPU) must support support Intel VT or AMD-V architecture extensions. Xen HVM-ISO allows you and your clients to install their vps using standard iso images. The iso images can consist of Windows, Linux or Unix.

Host Setup

To setup a host node for Xen HVM-ISO use this guide: Xen Virtualization. You may also need to consider making the / partition larger than 40GB to store the iso images.

ISO Setup

You will need to upload your iso's to the master server and place them in /home/solusvm/xen/iso.
Be sure that the iso file name must end up with .iso not .ISO. Otherwise you won't be able to see it in your drop down menu while you add iso.
Once the iso's are uploaded you can add them to the system by selecting Templates >> ISO >> Add
Note: Configure the node for HVM, else the iso's won't be synced!

Creating a Virtual Server

Creating a virtual server is the same as OpenVZ or Xen Paravirtualization except the operating system is not installed on the build process. After the virtual server has been created the selected iso will be mounted and made ready for install. Click on the VNC icon in the manage area and you will be dropped into the view of the virtual server.
When installing a virtual server you can either setup the networking manually or select networking via DHCP from the operating systems install options if you require.
