Omnipage Ultimate? Free OCR Text Scan Software In Microsoft Office

Most computers or shall I say almost every computer comes with Microsoft Office, and the best part is it comes with a free OCR software, I’ve tried a few Free OCR for example Simple OCR but it simpy doesn’t works as good as Kofax Omnipage but since I left my original CD back home, somewhere far far away, I have decided to give Microsoft Office Free OCR a try and to my surprise it is somewhat on par with Omnipage, not as accurate but why pay for something that you are not going to use often, and why search for Omnipage crack or keygen when you have a free OCR software sitting in your comp.

Step 1 – Search for ‘Microsoft Office Document Imaging’, if this feature is not found, you will have to install it.  

Step 2 – If this feature is installed, click on the link as shown.

  • Step 3 – Open an image file, to open Jpeg, go to ‘File’ > ‘Import’. By default, it only accepts MDI and TIFF format.
  • Step 4 – To convert, click on the ‘Recognize Text Using OCR’ button.

When you are done, you will be able to select the text by double clicking on the text on the image. There you go, a free OCR software that comes bundled with Microsoft Office, why pay for Omnipage Ultimate when it is available for free in Microsoft Office? Spread the word!

Where is the OCR (Document And Imaging) in Microsoft Office?

Why pay for Omnipage Ultimate when an OCR text scan software comes bundled with Microsoft Office 2007 and 2010? A friend of mine discovered that his Microsoft Office installation does not come with an OCR Document and Imaging.

This is not true, the problem is due to the default installation with Microsoft Office, the OCR Document and Imaging feature is installed on the default installation. Here is a simple tutorial on how to add this feature to your existing office.

  • Step 1 – Go to the ‘Add or Uninstall Program’ in Microsoft Windows, select ‘Microsoft Office’ from the list.
  • Step 2 – Click on the ‘Change’ button
  • Step 3 – Check the ‘Add or Remove Features’ button
  • Step 4 – Click on ‘Continue’
  • Step 5 – In the following dialog box, select ‘Office Tool’ > ‘Microsoft Office Document Imaging’ > ‘ Scanning, OCR and Indexing Service Filter’ and under the drop down list choose ‘run from computer’.
  • Step 6 – Proceed with the installation by clicking the ‘Continue’ button
  • Wait for the installation and when the installation is successful, you will see the following message.

🇺🇳 Guideline for New Language Requests

If you want to request a new language support, a PR with 1 following files are needed：

  1. In folder ppocr/utils/dict, it is necessary to submit the dict text to this path and name it with {language}_dict.txt that contains a list of all characters. Please see the format example from other files in that folder.

If your language has unique elements, please tell me in advance within any way, such as useful links, wikipedia and so on.
